The Zakarids (: Զաքարյաններ, Zak’aryanner), also known by their moniker as Mkhargrdzeli ( : მხარგრძელი), were a noble Armenian–Georgian dynasty of (possibly Yazidi) origin. Their name in Georgian, Mkhargrdzeli, or in : Երկայնաբազուկ, (Yerkaynbazuk) meant long-armed. A family legend says that this name was a reference to their ancestor the “Longarmed” (404-358 BC). The family consisted of Zakare and Ivane of the Armenian Zakarian family, known in Georgian as the Mkhargrdzeli.
